For a Dubai layover, plan how you will get online before you board. An eSIM Dubai plan uses a digital SIM built into your phone for prepaid travel data. Check your phone, the plan's activation policy and your data settings before departure. Here is how to prepare for a short stop or a longer UAE holiday.

Do I need a Dubai eSIM for a short layover?

You may not need one if you stay inside the terminal and only want occasional internet access. Visit Dubai confirms free Wi-Fi at Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC).

If you plan to leave the airport, compare mobile data options for directions, bookings and messages. Save your hotel address and booking details before departure, whichever connection you choose.

Also check your existing contract before adding another plan. Apple recommends checking whether international roaming is already included; ask your provider specifically about the UAE. Compare its allowance and charges with a prepaid plan for your actual travel dates.

How much does a Dubai eSIM cost?

The fixed UAE plans below range from $3.49 to $36.49, depending on data and validity. Prices were checked on 15 October 2026 and can change; the UAE eSIM page shows current options.

Validity means how long the plan lasts once active. Compare both columns: a longer validity does not mean you must spend that whole period abroad. Choose an allowance that matches your expected use, then check the full plan details.

Simnetic tip: Some UAE plans allow top-ups, so check that option before choosing your starting allowance.

Will a UAE eSIM work on my phone?

Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked before choosing a UAE plan. Apple requires an unlocked iPhone when using another provider abroad.

On iPhone, open Settings, then General and About. Look for “No SIM Restrictions” beside Network Provider Lock.

For Samsung phones, eSIM service varies by country and provider. Check your exact model with its manufacturer before selecting a plan. Our phone compatibility guide helps you organise those checks. Complete them before departure, especially if someone else manages your phone contract.

How much data should I choose for Dubai?

Choose your allowance using your recent data use and the activities you expect during your trip. Match the validity to your whole stay, including your departure day.

On iPhone, you can view data use for individual apps in Settings under Cellular. Use a known period when estimating a daily amount, then allow extra for unfamiliar routines.

For a layover, list the tasks you expect between flights before choosing an allowance. For a holiday, include sightseeing days and any work sessions in your estimate. Check your usage again after the first day. On iPhone, Low Data Mode pauses automatic updates and background tasks away from Wi-Fi.

When should I install my Dubai eSIM?

Install over Wi-Fi before departure, after checking the activation policy shown for your chosen plan. Follow that policy when deciding the installation date and when to start using the plan.

Apple says iPhone setup generally requires Wi-Fi or a hotspot. Set aside time at home to read the instructions and complete the installation.

  1. Check the plan's activation policy and confirm that its validity fits your trip.
  2. Connect to Wi-Fi and have your Simnetic QR code ready on another screen.
  3. Use the iPhone Camera app or Samsung's Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM > Scan QR code route.
  4. Scan the code and follow the prompts for your device.
  5. Keep the plan instructions available for your arrival and review any activation requirements.

How do I switch to UAE data after landing?

Select your UAE eSIM for mobile data; Apple explains how to choose the data line on iPhone. Apply the travel plan's roaming instructions and turn off data roaming on your home line.

On iPhone, leave Allow Mobile Data Switching off to keep your chosen data line. If you keep your home line active, home-provider roaming fees may still apply. Check its call and text charges separately.

Before leaving the terminal, turn Wi-Fi off briefly and try loading a webpage. Check that the UAE plan is selected, then open the booking or address you need next. Use our first-hour arrival checklist to organise the rest of your checks.

Does a Dubai data eSIM include calls or a phone number?

Simnetic's UAE data plans do not include a phone number, voice minutes or SMS. Internet calling is separate, and the UAE regulator TDRA regulates internet voice and video calls.

Before arranging a call, consult TDRA's list of permitted calling applications. It includes Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Agree on an application with your family or colleagues before departure. Check its requirements and test your setup before any important meeting.

What if my eSIM does not connect after arrival?

First check that the travel line is enabled, selected for data and configured according to your plan instructions. For iPhone roaming problems, Apple suggests turning Airplane Mode on for about 30 seconds, then off.

Check the plan's validity and remaining allowance before changing more settings. Reconnect to Wi-Fi if needed and collect the exact error message for support. Our eSIM troubleshooting guide can help you work through the next checks.
