eSIM Thailand: Data for Ferries, Grab and Maps
Compare eSIM Thailand plans for island-hopping. Budget your data for ferries, Grab and maps, check prices, and prepare your phone before departure.
Before each ferry trip, save your booking details and your next hotel's address. Then choose an eSIM Thailand plan around your daily data use and travel dates. Simnetic's Thailand eSIM is a prepaid mobile data plan that you install digitally. Here is how to budget for maps and transport, compare prices, and prepare before departure.
How much data should I budget for island-hopping?
Multiply your usual daily mobile data use by your trip length, then add a reserve. Use that estimate to compare Thailand plans with enough data and validity for your whole holiday.
On iPhone, you can view data use by app and reset the statistics. Record several days of use before departure, including days spent away from home. Review maps, messaging and entertainment separately when deciding what you will use abroad.
For example, if your phone records 0.3 GB daily, that rate gives 4.2 GB over 14 days. A 5 GB plan would leave 0.8 GB beyond that calculation. This is a worked example; replace the daily figure with your own reading. Compare a larger allowance if you want more room for changes to your routine.
Our guide to how much data you need when travelling helps you review your planned activities.
How much does a Thailand eSIM cost?
These Simnetic Thailand plans range from $1.49 for 1 GB to $15.49 for 20 GB. Prices were checked on 15 October 2026 and can change; see the Thailand eSIM page.
Data | Validity | Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
1 GB | 7 days | $1.49 |
3 GB | 15 days | $3.49 |
5 GB | 15 days | $6.99 |
5 GB | 30 days | $5.49 |
10 GB | 30 days | $9.49 |
20 GB | 30 days | $15.49 |
Compare both versions of the 5 GB plan: the longer validity costs less in this selection. Check the remaining plan details before choosing, including when validity begins. Count your arrival and departure days when matching a plan to your itinerary.
Simnetic tip: Some Thailand plans allow top-ups, so check this feature when choosing your initial allowance.

Where can I plan to use Grab in Thailand?
Grab lists Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui among its service locations, alongside Bangkok. Check your exact pick-up point in the app before planning a ferry connection around a ride.
Download Grab and sign in before leaving home, then review your accommodation and pier addresses. Ask your hotel about onward transport if you need a firm arrangement after arrival.
Simnetic's Thailand plans provide data and include no phone number or voice and SMS features. Agree a contact method with your accommodation before travelling, especially when arranging a meeting at the pier.
What should I save before each ferry journey?
Save your booking reference, departure pier, arrival pier and accommodation address before leaving for the ferry. Read your operator's current check-in instructions and confirm the ticket format you need to present.
Keep a simple travel note with these details:
- The ferry operator and booking reference for that day's journey.
- The departure time and the office or counter named on your booking.
- The arrival pier and the agreed meeting point for onward transport.
- Your accommodation's address and the contact method you have arranged.
For Lomprayah, its terms require arrival at the office at least 60 minutes before departure. Follow the instructions for your own operator and booking. Review the saved details again before each island transfer, and keep them accessible on your phone.
Can I use Google Maps without mobile data?
Google Maps lets you save an area for offline use where downloads are available. However, walking, cycling and public transport directions are unavailable offline.
Download the areas around your hotel and ferry piers before setting out. Open each saved map and check that it includes the places you need.
Google says offline navigation requires the entire route to fall within the downloaded area. Offline driving also lacks traffic information and alternative routes. Keep mobile data in your budget for online directions, and write down your next destination before departure.
What should I check on my phone?
Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked before choosing a Thailand plan. On iPhone, look for No SIM Restrictions under Settings > General > About.
For Samsung, only some Galaxy phones include eSIM. Confirm support for your exact model with its manufacturer before selecting a plan.
When should I install my Thailand eSIM?
Prepare your eSIM before departure, following the activation policy for your selected plan. Use Wi-Fi for installation; Apple generally requires Wi-Fi or a hotspot for iPhone eSIM setup.
- Check your plan's activation policy and choose an appropriate installation time.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and open the installation details supplied with your plan.
- Follow our eSIM installation guide for your device and scan the supplied QR code.
- Follow the plan's activation instructions when you are ready to use it.
- On iPhone, select the travel line under Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data.
Review both SIM lines before departure if you keep your home line enabled. Apple warns that keeping your home eSIM active can still incur roaming fees.
How can I keep enough data for transfer days?
Reserve your remaining allowance for directions, bookings and transport when moving between islands. Use Netflix's Wi-Fi Only setting to restrict streaming to Wi-Fi.
Netflix says its Maximum Data mobile setting can use 1 GB per 20 minutes or more. Include entertainment in your budget before choosing a plan, and review your usage during the trip. Our guide to saving mobile data abroad covers further settings to check.
