Call Forwarding: How Virtual Numbers Work and What They Cost
Learn how call forwarding works with a virtual number, what Simnetic rental and forwarded minutes cost, and what to check before travelling.
Before choosing a virtual number, compare its rental and call forwarding charges together. With Simnetic, forwarded minutes are paid separately from your wallet at the rate shown before saving a destination. The monthly rental is only one part of your call budget. Here is how to check the destination, estimate costs and test your setup before travelling.
How does call forwarding work with a virtual number?
Call forwarding redirects incoming calls to another phone number. With supported Simnetic numbers, you choose the receiving number and pay forwarding charges from your wallet.
Write down both numbers before setting anything up: the virtual number and the number where you want to answer. Check that the selected virtual number supports calls, then confirm the receiving number carefully.
For example, plan which number clients should dial and which phone you will answer during your trip. Treat this as a setup checklist, and test the arrangement before sharing your contact details. Our guide to what a virtual phone number is explains the product basics.
What does call forwarding cost with Simnetic?
Your Simnetic costs include the virtual-number rental and a separate charge for forwarded minutes. The forwarding rate appears before you save the destination, and those minutes are paid from your Simnetic wallet.
These starting rental prices were checked on 15 October 2026 and can change. Check the virtual-number pricing page for current options and each number's supported features.
Virtual-number country | Monthly rental from (USD) |
|---|---|
United States | $4.99 |
Canada | $4.99 |
Brazil | $7.99 |
Chile | $18.49 |
These are country starting prices; confirm the rental for the particular number you select. Budget for forwarded minutes separately, using the rate displayed for your chosen destination.
Simnetic tip: Check the displayed forwarding rate before saving your destination; forwarded minutes are paid from your Simnetic wallet.

How can you estimate your forwarding budget?
Estimate forwarding charges by multiplying expected billable minutes by the rate shown for your destination. Add the rental for your chosen term to estimate your Simnetic spending.
Write down your expected calls and their likely length before comparing options. Use a quieter month and a busier month to estimate a spending range. Keep the same expected minutes when comparing different arrangements, so the comparison stays useful.
Ask support to clarify any billing detail you cannot find before relying on your estimate. Review the destination rate again before saving a different receiving number. For work use, our virtual phone number for business guide covers choosing a separate line.
How should you prepare forwarding before a trip?
Choose a supported virtual number, confirm the receiving number and review the forwarding rate before saving it. Then test an incoming call before relying on the setup while travelling.
- Check that your selected virtual number supports incoming calls and forwarding.
- Choose the phone number where you want to receive those calls.
- Review the displayed per-minute rate before saving that destination.
- Check your Simnetic wallet balance against your expected forwarded minutes.
- Save the destination, then ask someone to call your virtual number.
- Answer the test call and check that you can hear each other clearly.
Keep the virtual number and receiving number labelled separately in your notes. If the test fails, check the digits and ask support before sharing the number widely. Repeat your test after changing the destination.
Is this the same as forwarding through your phone settings?
Your phone's forwarding setting redirects incoming calls from the selected SIM line to another number. Simnetic forwarding handles calls to your supported virtual number, using the receiving number you choose.
For supported iPhone service, Apple places Call Forwarding under Settings, Apps, then Phone. Apple also says you must be within mobile network range when setting it up.
Samsung describes forwarding all calls or only busy, unanswered or unreachable calls. Its guide advises checking that your mobile provider supports these features. Confirm the options offered for your chosen Simnetic number separately before planning around those conditions.
Will forwarding calls prevent roaming charges abroad?
Do not assume forwarding makes incoming calls free abroad: some mobile plans charge for receiving calls while roaming. Check the receiving line's overseas terms alongside Simnetic's forwarding rate before deciding where to send calls.
That means checking the phone you will actually answer, as well as your virtual-number account. Ask its provider about incoming calls in every country on your itinerary. Ofcom recommends checking your package or speaking to your provider before travelling.
Keep your data purchase separate from this call-budget check. Simnetic travel eSIM data plans do not include a phone number. Our virtual number vs second SIM guide can help you compare the roles of each product.
What happens to SMS when you forward calls?
On SMS-enabled Simnetic numbers, incoming texts appear in the receive-only inbox in My Virtual Numbers. Check that inbox for messages separately from the receiving number chosen for calls.
Sending SMS from US and Canada numbers is coming soon, and MMS is not included. Check the selected number's SMS support before using it as a contact number for messages.
Simnetic does not guarantee WhatsApp, Telegram, banks, OTP services or social apps will accept a virtual number. Before depending on a number for an account, check that service's requirements and available recovery options.
What should you check about rental renewal?
Simnetic offers fixed terms of one, three or twelve months, or monthly auto-renewal. Fixed terms do not renew automatically, and we email seven days before the end.
Choose a term that covers the dates when you need the number. Record its end date alongside your travel dates and review the reminder when it arrives. For ongoing client contact, decide whether a fixed term or monthly auto-renewal suits your needs.
Before departure, review three things together: your rental term, forwarding destination and expected wallet spending. Keep a note of the settings you tested so you can check them again during your trip.
