Mexico eSIM: Staying Connected From Cancún to Mexico City
Choose a Mexico eSIM for Cancún and Mexico City. Compare prepaid data prices, check your phone, and prepare maps and settings before you fly.
Planning beach days in Cancún followed by a Mexico City break? Choose your Mexico eSIM around the whole journey, including the day you change cities and your return transfer. Compare the data allowance, expiry date and price together. Below, we explain what to prepare, which Simnetic plans to compare, and how to set up your phone.
What should I prepare for Cancún and Mexico City?
Check your chosen plan's coverage details for every stop and select validity that covers your whole stay. Save your accommodation addresses, transfer instructions and booking details before departure.
For a trip combining both destinations, prepare a separate arrival checklist for each. Include the address of your next hotel and your transport booking reference. Keep a copy available without opening your email.
Where available, Google Maps lets you download map areas for offline use. Download the areas around your planned stops while connected to Wi-Fi. Check the saved areas before leaving, especially if you plan to drive between accommodation and day trips.
However, Google Maps has no offline walking or public transport directions. For your Mexico City days, prepare written route notes alongside downloaded maps.
Should I choose a Mexico eSIM or home roaming?
Compare your home provider's Mexico allowance and total trip cost with a prepaid eSIM. Choose the option that covers your expected data use and the full length of your stay.
Ofcom advises travellers to check their package before departure because roaming can add charges. Ask your provider whether Mexico is included, how much data you get, and what happens after that allowance.
For a daily roaming offer, calculate the cost across every day you expect to use it. Compare that total with a suitable fixed data plan below. Include any calls or texts you expect to make in your comparison.
Our guide to eSIM versus roaming explains the choices in more detail.

Will my phone work with a Mexico eSIM?
A Mexico eSIM requires an eSIM-compatible, unlocked phone to use another provider's plan. Confirm support for your exact model and the version sold in its country of purchase.
On iPhone, Apple explains that “No SIM Restrictions” under Network Provider Lock means the phone is unlocked. Find this under Settings, General, About.
For Android, check the manufacturer's guidance for your specific device. Google confirms that a Pixel must be SIM-unlocked to use another mobile provider. If you want two active eSIMs, Google's requirements include Pixel 7 or later and support from your provider.
Resolve any compatibility or unlocking questions before you select your travel plan.
How much data should I choose for my Mexico trip?
Use your recent mobile data consumption as a starting point, then allow for your planned travel activities. Choose enough validity for both your beach stay and city break, including departure day.
On iPhone, you can view data use by app and reset the statistics. Record a few typical days before departure, then consider how your holiday routine will differ.
Ofcom identifies video, photo uploads and music downloads as activities that use substantial data. Decide which of these you want to do over mobile data while away.
Compare the allowances below against your own estimate. Avoid assuming that a particular number of gigabytes will last everyone the same number of days. Our guide to saving mobile data abroad provides a settings checklist.
How much do Simnetic's Mexico eSIM plans cost?
The selected Mexico plans below range from $3.49 to $31.99, with different data allowances. Prices were checked on 15 October 2026 and can change; compare current Mexico plans.
Data | Validity | Price (USD) |
|---|---|---|
1 GB | 7 days | $3.49 |
3 GB | 15 days | $8.99 |
3 GB | 30 days | $7.99 |
5 GB | 30 days | $11.99 |
10 GB | 30 days | $20.49 |
20 GB | 30 days | $31.99 |
Notice that the 30-day 3 GB option costs less than the 15-day option in this selection. Compare all plan details before choosing; a shorter validity period does not always mean a lower price.
Validity is the period a plan lasts once active. Read the activation policy before deciding when to install it.
Simnetic tip: Some Mexico plans allow top-ups. Check whether your chosen plan supports them before relying on extra data later.
How do I install and set up my Mexico eSIM?
Follow your plan's installation instructions on Wi-Fi, timing installation around its stated activation policy. Select the travel eSIM for mobile data when you are ready to use it in Mexico.
Apple lists a Wi-Fi connection or hotspot as a setup requirement, with some exceptions. Prepare before departure where your plan's activation policy allows.
- Confirm device compatibility, your data allowance, validity and activation policy.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and open the installation details supplied for your plan.
- Follow the QR-code instructions in our eSIM installation guide.
- On iPhone, select the travel line under Settings, Mobile Data, Mobile Data.
- Turn off home-line data roaming; follow the travel plan's roaming instructions separately. Apple notes that international data plans may need data roaming enabled.
- Once the plan is active in Mexico, turn off Wi-Fi briefly and test a webpage.
Before leaving for your next stop, check your remaining allowance and expiry date.
Does a Mexico eSIM include a Mexican phone number?
Simnetic's Mexico eSIM data plans do not include a phone number. They do not provide a Mexican number for ordinary calls or SMS.
If you need your existing number, Apple explains how supported iPhones can keep a home line active alongside a travel eSIM. Check your home provider's charges before using that line for calls or messages. Apple warns that keeping both lines active can still incur home-line roaming fees.
Before travelling, agree how you will contact your accommodation or transfer provider. Keep their contact details with your booking information.
